Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • I have read and adapted the file I am about to submit to the journal's guidelines which are available in the submissions / author guidelines section. Failure to comply with this is grounds for your manuscript not to be shortlisted for submission to reviewers.
  • The text has not been published or submitted simultaneously to another periodical.
  • The submitted file is formatted in Microsoft Word or Open Office.

  • The text adheres to the bibliographic requirements and the style rules indicated in the Instructions for Authors, which can be found in the “About” section of the journal.

  • If I am submitting a document for peer review, I guarantee the instructions outlined in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  • Authors must accept and sight the Statement of Originality. This document must be uploaded with the paper submission. Find the option “Statement of Originality” when uploading.
  • Graphs and tables are included pursuant to the journal’s specifications, as outlined in the Instructions for Authors.

  • I guarantee the bibliography is complete, according to the indications on citation and the requirements outlined in the Instructions for Authors

Author Guidelines

Authors’ Guidelines

Approach: Aquichan is a scientific journal from the Nursing and Rehabilitation Faculty, edited by Universidad de La Sabana. It is oriented to the promotion and encouragement of care in nursing developments.

Subject and scope: Aquican is a medical and health publication from the health science area, from the nursing discipline. It publishes articles that are the result of research addressing any of these topics: epistemology, health promotion, well-being and quality of life, confrontation and adaptation of health, technologies for health care, and care processes and practices.

Article Types

  1. Research article: new research findings reports or conceptual analysis that represent significant contributions to the nursing discipline. The structure must include an introduction, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusions, according to the guide stablished by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, available at http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/manuscript-preparation/preparing-for-submission.html#three
  2. Review article: Reports that are the product of the critical analysis of the scientific literature. They present a synthesis of research results with the purpose of facilitating the comprehension of the studied phenomenon and providing information about the scientific evidence related to the topic. In this category, systemic and metanalysis revisions and meta-synthesis, integrative revisions, and scoping reviews are included. They are characterized for presenting a thorough bibliographic revision of at least 50 references.

Article processing Charges (APC)

Aquichan does not charge for the submission or processing of the articles; it is a non-profit journal.

Arrangement of the submissions

Title: it is brief and indicates the central topic of the article. Abbreviations and formulas are not permitted. It has a maximum of 15 words.

Author information: Each author must include the following information:

The maximum number of authors permitted is six, and the contribution to research and to the article must be included. If the number of participants is exceeded, the contribution of each author to the manuscript must be justified. We follow the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors' (ICMJE) guidelines:

Extra information:

  • Correspondence author.
  • If there is any acknowledgment, add it after the conclusion.
  • Funding: If the article is based on a funded project, it must be mentioned. Add a footnote after the title, and the following information: project name, the financing institution, and the funding code.
  • Give each author’s contribution to the research and to the manuscript.

Abstract: It must be no longer than 250 words and follow the structure: Introduction, objectives, materials and methods, results, and conclusions. It must not include references.

The abstract must be coherent and concisely present the methodology of the manuscript. The introduction must justify the study. The conclusions must respond to the results and the stated objective. The disciplinary contributions must be evidenced. Take into consideration the indications established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, available at http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/manuscript-preparation/preparing-for-submission.html#three, and validate the abstract quality criteria using CONSORT.

Keywords: Must be at least five (5) from any of these sources:

Any keyword that doesn’t match these sources is not valid.

Subject: provide the topic in which the article (research or revision) was developed:

  • Epistemology
  • Health promotion, well-being, and quality of life
  • Confrontation and adaptation of health
  • Technologies for healthcare
  • Health processes and practices

Contribution to the discipline: a hundred-word paragraph evidencing the contribution to the new disciplinary knowledge from the study and the nursing model or theory used.

Article type: Aquichan receives the following type of articles:

1) Research: new research findings reports or conceptual analysis that represent significant contributions to the nursing discipline. The structure must include an introduction, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusions, according to the guide established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, available at http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/manuscript-preparation/preparing-for-submission.html#three. The manuscripts in this category must be between 3000 and 4000 words.

2) Qualitative methodology investigations: must comply with the requisites established by COREQ  (COnsolidated criteria for REporting Qualitative research), available at: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/pb-assets/assets/17416612/COREQ_Checklist-1556513515737.pdf. A minimum of 30 references, updated and international, are suggested.

3) Quantitative methodology investigations: must comply with the requisites established by CONSORT, available at: http://www.consort-statement.org/. A minimum of 30 references, updated and international, are suggested. 

4) Review article: Reports that are the product of the critical analysis of the scientific literature. They present a synthesis of research results with the purpose of facilitating the comprehension of the studied phenomenon and providing information about the scientific evidence related to the topic. This category includes systemic and metanalysis revisions and meta-synthesis, integrative revisions, and scoping reviews. They are characterized for presenting a thorough bibliographic revision of at least 50 references. They must comply with the requisites stablished by PRISMA, available at: http://www.prisma-statement.org/. For systemic revisions, it is essential to register them at Prospero and include the code in the manuscript (https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/)

In each of these categories, the body of the manuscript should contain between 3,000 and 4,000 words. This number of words does not include the title, summary, keywords, tables, acknowledgments, conflicts of interest, funding, references, or the “contribution to the discipline” element.

All articles must be presented in Times New Roman, 12 points, double-interlined.

Footnotes: These are clarifying notes. They appear consecutively numbered in the lower portion of the pages. They are used to add previously unpublished information, such as explanations or sources.

Figures and Tables: These may be charts, tables, graphs, diagrams, drawings, photographs, or maps that supplement the information in the manuscript. The title of the Figure or Table must be brief, and precise, and state whether it was independently developed or from a source with permission. The source and the date must be included in the Figures, or you have to mention if it was your own elaboration. The tables, charts, graphics, and diagrams must be added to the Word documents, and also must be uploaded to the submission. We require these elements to be sent in either JPG, PNG, TIF, and JPEG formats and be of excellent quality in 300-400 DPI.

Bibliographic references: Aquichan applies the Vancouver Norms and follows the most up-to-date version of the manual “Citing Medicine” from the National Library of Medicine, National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). The references must be from last the five years (70 %) and be from international sources (70 %).
