It is indispensable for nursing professionals to have their own theories to help them scientifically support care, so as to make the practice of this discipline more autonomous and safer. The purpose of this study was to generate a middle range theory to explain the phenomenon of risky sexual behavior on the part of adolescents. Fawcett’s theoretical derivation method was used to develop the conceptual-theoretical-empirical structure of the proposed theory. A literature review made it possible to structure the model of sexual resilience in adolescents based on the concepts and proposals that constitute the risk factors, the protective factors and the outcome factor influencing resilience during the period of adolescent development. The model also contributes to the design of psycho-educational interventions focused on preventing the sort of sexual conduct that poses a risk of contracting HIV.
