Abstract

The hospitalization of a loved one in an intensive care unit (ICU) often occurs unexpectedly, negatively affecting the mental health of family members. International guidelines for family-centered care in the ICU propose interventions aimed at mitigating this emotional impact, although the evidence supporting them remains limited. Nursing, as a discipline, plays a key role in generating knowledge that makes it possible to validate and support humanization practices aimed at mitigating the emotional burden experienced by family members in ICUs.
