Abstract

This article shows the relationship between main carers ability of chronic disabling disease patients and functionality of carees registered in the Disabling Program of the Municipality of Chía (Colombia). The study was conducted through a quantitative method, based on a correlative descriptive design. Its results evidenced no relation between total care ability, disregarding knowledge, courage or patience of the main carer, and caree degree of functionality.
The population sampling is mainly made of young adults and elderly people who are severely disabled due to a chronic disease. Main carers are adult married women aged 35, whose educational level goes up to completed high school; they have been the single carer in each case for more than 37 months and their care ability is medium or low.
