Abstract

This article is the result of a broad theoretical review about children’s growing and development in pre-school stages; this review was done while researching to design and validate an instrument for assessing child’s adaptation between 25 and 72 months based on the Roy Adaptation Model. The investigation is being conducted at the Nursing Faculty of La Sabana University.

While developing the article, some general concepts about adaptation and confrontation mechanisms will be presented. The cognitive mechanism and its development in pre-school stages will be thoroughly analyzed; this stage is featured by pre-operational, pre-conventional and pre-moral processes, autonomy, initiative and socialization’s beginning.
